Indian professor was appointed as senator of the Indo-German Institute of Technology (IGIT)

Proud of the good partnership

By ANDREAS BUCHBAUERThe businessmen sat together at the Rheydter Hotel “Spickhofen” in a good temper. Really relaxed welcomed the Gladbacher Achim Schulz the 32 guests at the premises of the tradition rich restaurant. In March 2003 he has inaugurated the “Indo-German Institute of Technology” (IGIT) together with his Joint-Venture partner Gopal Srivastava. Since then the institute works closely together with the Technological University of Bangalore. In this institute experts are trained in Bio- and Information-Technologies. Because of its excellent contacts, IGIT functions as a interface between German and Indian industry. In close future companies will get the possibility to present their selves in own premises at Bangalore, with the aim to break faster into the Indian market.
Familiar atmosphere. Pretty soon the two Indian guests – beside Gopal Srivastava professor Venkatesh Krishna came over to Rheydt – felt well accepted in the hall of the Hotel. Directly at the beginning Achim Schulz took the time to introduce the present businesspeople to each other and created therefore a nearly familiar atmosphere. Afterwards he gave a summary of the present state of the activities of the institute, which has specialized in the transfer of Technology and he risked a little look into future prospects together with pending projects. One of those is the founding of the “Indo-German Training Factory”. “Students should get the opportunity to combine theory and practice in an Indian factory under the leadership of professors and experts of the industry”, explained Schulz.
The fact, that professor Venkatesh stayed one week in Darmstadt, was a good reason to visit the Vituscity, too. Finally the academician received the high honor to be elected as the fifth senator of IGIT, a decoration which obviously was a great delight to the Indian. He proudly showed the handed over document around. In a few meters distant the other senators – Hans Spelten, Wolfgang Bins, professor Ekkehard Piwowarsky and Konny Cleve – applauded acknowledging. Achim Schulz emphasized his “pride of the good partnership”, too.

Exchange of ideas
Beside the official act the morning was also used for exchanges of ideas. It became clear very quickly that Achim Schulz and his Indian partners have extremely good business connections. All at the meeting in Rheydt shook their hands with pleasure. And professor Venkatesh – as the new appointed senator of IGIT – will certainly step into the plain back to India with plenty of good memories.
